ICYMI: Allred Launches Women For Allred in Dallas

“I’ll tell you one thing, you don’t mess with Texas women,” Allred said.

DALLAS – Congressman Colin Allred launched his Women for Allred coalition in Dallas Saturday afternoon. In a packed room of more than 850 Texans, Kate Cox of Cox v. Texas, and Amanda Zurawski, Lauren Miller, Dr. Austin Dennard, and Taylor Edwards, the plaintiffs in Zurawski v. Texas spoke alongside OB-GYNs, elected officials and union leaders about Ted Cruz’s abortion ban that has no exceptions for health of the mother, rape or incest has put Texas women, like themselves, in danger.

Women for Allred will be co-chaired by Allred’s wife Aly Eber, State Senator Carol Alvarado (SD-06), HD-112 candidate Averie Bishop, Kate Cox, former State Senator Wendy Davis, Dr. Austin Dennard, Taylor Edwards, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07), Dr. Allison Gilbert, State Rep. Julie Johnson (HD-115), Olivia Juliana, Lauren Miller, Dr. Kim Vernon and Amanda Zurawski.

Media Coverage from the Event

  • Dallas Morning News:If you do this to Texas women, if you are singularly responsible in a way that almost no other Texan can claim to be because you put the judges on the court who took this right away and because you helped elect the legislators who passed these laws at the state level … then you should lose your job,” Allred said to about 850 people at Gilley’s.
  • “I was forced to flee the state terrified and heartbroken. Ted Cruz is proud of this. He worked to get us here,” said Taylor Edwards, one of the plaintiffs. “We deserve the freedom to access the health care we need and to get it close to home from the doctors and medical teams that we trust. Instead, Ted Cruz criminalized us. I am not a criminal…’m a mother who made the best decision she could.
  • In 2023 Dr. Austin Dennard, a Dallas OB-GYN and plaintiff, also traveled out of state for an abortion after learning her fetus had a severe, fatal condition. “I remember looking up at that ultrasound screen in disbelief, grieving a child that my family and I were so excited to welcome, then coming to the realization that I would have to flee my own state to receive the care,” Dennard said.
  • NBC Nightly News: These women are now stumping for Texas Democratic Representative Colin Allred… (Dr Austin Dennard said) “The women before us fought for Roe, and I look at my daughter and my son and we owe it to you to make that change.”
  • Lone Star Live: “My advice now to expecting parents is to pack two [hospital] bags, because you might need one to flee the state if you need health care,” Amanda Zurawski said. “That’s the reality that we’re living in because of Ted Cruz.”
  • “Because I found a way to access abortion care, I’m pregnant again and I have hope,” [Kate] Cox said. “My baby is due in January, just in time to see Colin Allred elected as the next senator of our great state.”
  • “I’ll tell you one thing, you don’t mess with Texas women,” Allred said.
  • WFAA: “Saturday, the eve of the two year anniversary of the Texas abortion ban, Allred held a Women for Allred rally at Gilly’s Dallas. Standing with women who said they had to leave Texas to receive life-saving abortions.”
  • Fox 4 DFW: “This is the most important election of our lifetime, and we can’t afford six more years of this,” said Allred. Democratic Colin Allred kicked off his Women for Allred as part of his campaign for U.S. Senate.
  • Texas Metro News: The line was long and the place was packed as many braved the Texas heat to show support for United States Representative Colin Allred who is running against Senator Ted Cruz for the United States Senate.
