Allred Releases Statement on Southern District of Texas Ruling on DACA

Dallas, TX — Today, Congressman Colin Allred released the following statement on U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen of the Southern District of Texas ruling the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, to be unlawful:

“Dreamers are Texans who have known no other home than here. These nearly hundred thousand Texans are part of the fabric of our state’s culture. They are first responders and doctors – and the contributions they make to their communities on a daily basis are immeasurable. It is shameful for any politician to use their livelihood and stability as a cynical bargaining chip. 

“The vast majority of Texans agree that Dreamers, who were brought here through no fault of their own, deserve a pathway to citizenship. But Ted Cruz has consistently blocked bipartisan efforts to codify DACA, including in 2018 being the single Senator standing in the way of efforts to protect Dreamers. It’s time we put an end to the cynical political games and give these Texans the security and peace of mind they deserve. I will continue working across the aisle for comprehensive immigration reform that protects our Dreamers, secures our borders and provides a pathway to earned citizenship for those who are working hard and obeying the law.”
