Allred Earns Endorsement of Texas State Teachers Association and the National Education Association

DALLAS – Congressman Colin Allred announced he earned the support of the Texas State Teachers Association (TSTA) and its national affiliate, the National Education Association. TSTA, the oldest education organization in Texas, is a statewide organization with over 68,000 members, including public school educators.

“As the son of a public school teacher, I’ve seen firsthand the obstacles and challenges educators face across Texas,” said Allred. “I’m honored to receive the endorsements of the Texas State Teachers Association and the National Education Association. In the U.S. Senate, I will always support our teachers and our public schools. ”

“Public education is in Colin Allred’s DNA. His mother was a public school teacher who instilled in her son the importance of public schools and taught him to respect the hard work and dedication of the people who work in them. Education has been one of Allred’s top priorities during his time in Congress, and we are confident it will remain so as a senator,” said TSTA President Ovidia Molina. “The main interest Cruz has shown in public education during almost two terms in the Senate has been how to privatize it with a national program of school vouchers.”

“Allred knows how critical it is to ensure that every student – no matter their race, place or background – has access to quality public schools,” said NEA President Becky Pringle. “In a time when some extreme politicians are focused on banning books and taking away learning opportunities for students, Colin Allred has partnered with parents and educators to ensure students can get the one-on-one support they need, keep students and educators safe from gun violence, expand school-based mental health programs and address educator shortages. In the Senate, Colin Allred will continue helping level the playing field for working families.”

The Texas State Teachers Association and the National Education Association join the American Federation of Teachers, Texas AFL-CIO, Reproductive Freedom for All, the Human Rights Campaign, the Congressional Black Caucus PAC, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the College Democrats of America, the League of Conservation Voters, United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, Jewish Democratic Council of America, End Citizens United // Let America Vote and other organizations in supporting Allred’s candidacy.

He has also earned the backing of a broad coalition of leaders from across Texas including Congress members Veronica Escobar, Joaquin Castro, Lizzie Fletcher and Marc Veasey, State Senators César Blanco, José Menéndez, Carol Alvarado and Royce West, as well as local leaders including El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, and Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis.
