Allred Earns Backing of Union that Represents Customs and Border Protection Officers
DALLAS – Today, Congressman Colin Allred is announcing he has earned the endorsement of the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), which represents federal employees including 29,000 Customs and Border Protection (CBP) employees who staff more than 300 ports of entry, in his race for U.S. Senate. Allred’s grandfather served as a Customs Officer in Brownsville after serving in the Navy during WWII.
“I had the honor of meeting with CBP officers in El Paso last summer and I heard from them the challenges they are facing in dealing with surges of migrants and stopping fentanyl from entering our country,” said Allred. “These brave officers need a Senator who will act to give them the resources they need to do their jobs and keep us safe. I am proud to earn NTEU’s endorsement and will always work to ensure our federal employees, especially our CBP officers, have the support they need to succeed.”
“Your commitment to ensuring that federal agencies, especially those charged with protecting the border like Customs and Border Protection, are properly funded and staffed is one of the many reasons why Texans should vote for you for Senate,” said NTEU National President Doreen Greenwald. “You understand first-hand the challenges facing federal workers and how hard they work to serve the American people and you have fought alongside them to ensure that they are treated with dignity and respect.”
NTEU joins the Texas AFL-CIO, AFGE, LiUNA, IBEW, and the Texas State Legislative Board for Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen in supporting Allred’s candidacy. He has also earned the backing of a broad coalition of leaders from across Texas including Congress members Veronica Escobar, Joaquin Castro, Lizze Fletcher and Marc Veasey, State Senators César Blanco, José Menéndez, Carol Alvarado and Royce West, as well as local leaders including El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, and Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis.
