Father of Wrongfully Detained U.S. Marine Trevor Reed Speaks Out in New Allred Ad “Senator Cruz refused to help us”
“Our elected officials, they’re accountable not only for their actions but for their inactions. Ted Cruz is not here for Texas. Ted Cruz is here for Ted Cruz.” – Joey Reed
DALLAS – Today, Congressman Colin Allred launched a new ad in his race against Ted Cruz, titled “Accountable” featuring Joey Reed. Reed is a seventh-generation Texan and father to U.S. Marine Trevor Reed, who was wrongfully detained in Russia.
Reed details that when his son was facing a nine-year prison sentence in Russia, Allred worked with both parties and leaders from across Texas to fight for Trevor’s release and successfully bring him home. Meanwhile, Ted Cruz was nowhere to be found.
At the time of his son’s release, Reed said of Cruz, “He didn’t do anything…he’s an embarrassment to the state of Texas.” In a direct phone call with Cruz he said, “we needed your help two and a half years ago, not now.”

The ad will begin airing statewide on digital platforms starting Friday, September 13. Allred continues to advertise on TV and is up in half the markets across Texas including Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Waco, Tyler, Beaumont, Harlingen-Brownsville-McAllen, Corpus Christi and Abilene.

“Accountable” Ad Script:
Joey Reed, 7th-generation Texan and father of Trevor Reed:
I’m a seventh-generation Texan, my children are eighth-generation Texans.
When my son Trevor Reed was detained by the Russian police he was given nine years.
We were frantic, we tried to stay focused and not just break down every day crying.
The first politician that we called was Ted Cruz. They basically said, “we’re not gonna be able to help you.”
Ted Cruz didn’t lift a finger for us when everybody else in the state did.
Colin Allred was right there, working with both parties to bring our son home.
The thing I like about Colin is he listens, he can relate to almost everyone. He’s willing to reach across the aisle.
Our resolutions in the House of Representatives had co-sponsors from both parties nationwide. The one person missing from everything was Ted Cruz.
Senator Cruz refused to help us, when everyone else in the government was.
Our elected officials, they’re accountable not only for their actions but for their inactions.
Ted Cruz is not here for Texas. Ted Cruz is here for Ted Cruz.
