Allred Statement One Year After Roe was Overturned

DALLAS – Congressman Colin Allred released the following statement one year after Roe v. Wade was overturned.

“One year ago, Texas women were stripped of their fundamental right to make decisions about their own bodies and were relegated to second class citizenship because of an out-of-touch Supreme Court and a radical GOP law that banned all abortions without exception and placed a bounty on women.

“My wife and I were blessed with two healthy pregnancies but I held my breath at every doctor’s appointment fearing that this ultrasound could be the one that found something wrong with our baby or life-threatening to my wife.

“I trust women to make decisions about their bodies and their health in consultation with their family, faith and doctor – without interference from politicians like Ted Cruz who called this ruling ‘a massive victory.’

“Forcing women to face life-threatening experiences so they can get the care they need is not in any way a massive victory. I will always fight to ensure women can access the care they need close to home, including abortions.”
