In the video, Allred says, in part:

“I know that I stand on the shoulders of giants like Eddie Bernice Johnson, Barbara Jordan, Opal Lee, and John Lewis. Leaders who fought to ensure that every person – no matter the color of their skin or where they live – had the freedom to chase their dreams without discrimination. The fact that I, a biracial kid from Dallas who was raised by a single mom, made it to the NFL and then Congress, and am now running to be Texas first Black Senator would simply not have been possible without them. And it’s their torch that we’re taking up to continue realizing that same dream for every Texan.”

Since launching his campaign, Allred has earned the support of Black leaders across Texas, including Congressman Marc Veasey; Houston Mayor Emeritus Sylvester Turner, City Controller Chris Hollins, and Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis; Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price; State Representatives Sheryl Cole, Rhetta Bowers, Toni Rose, and Venton Jones; and more. In addition, Allred has been endorsed by the Congressional Black Caucus PAC.
