Allred Launches Asian American and Pacific Islander Texans for Allred
DALLAS – On Monday, Congressman Colin Allred announced the launch of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Texans for Allred coalition with a kickoff organizing call alongside co-chairs and Texas leaders. AAPI Texans are among the most rapidly growing communities in Texas.
As part of his work to build a broad coalition to win, Allred has launched Women for Allred, Black Texans for Allred, and Tejanos for Allred, and now, AAPI Texans for Allred. This builds on Allred’s work to launch the Texas Offense, Democrats’ first statewide coordinated campaign in more than 20 years.
“Colin already has a track record, he’s already been getting the job done,” said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “He’s helped support legislation to lower the cost of prescription drugs, to lower and cap the cost of insulin which is so important for a city like San Antonio. He’s been standing up for our AAPI communities on the COVID Hate Crimes Act. Every time our community is under attack, Colin Allred has stood in support of us.”
“We need leaders who actually are involved and heavily participating in the Asain American community,” said Averie Bishop, Candidate for Texas HD 112. “…Colin shows up consistently and always, not because he needs something but because he cares.”
“Colin represents the very best of public service,” said State Representative Salman Bhojani. “From being raised by a single mother, to making it to the NFL then to Congress, we are so fortunate to have such a well-rounded leader who is putting his time, energy and resources into becoming our next senator from Texas.”
“I’m so excited that we’re one day closer to not only voting for Congressman Allred for Senate, but voting for kindness, voting for decency and voting for empathy,” said Councilmember Zohaib Quadri. “We know who Ted Cruz is and Texas deserves better than Ted Cruz.”
AAPI Texans for Allred will be co-chaired by:
- San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg
- State Representative Gene Wu
- State Representative Suleman Lalani
- State Representative Salman Bhojani
- Austin City Council Member Zohaib Zo Quadri
- Averie Bishop, Candidate for Texas HD 112
Allred has focused on meeting AAPI Texans where they are throughout his campaign, earning the support of AAPI Texas leaders like Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Texas HD candidate, Averie Bishop. On the campaign trail, Allred has met with AAPI small business owners and during his time in Congress, joined as an associate member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), voting to pass the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act to combat the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes.
